Packaging Design for Venport︎ This project involved a new brand identity for the foods sector of Venport Enterprises. I also designed the front &amp; back labels for these extra virgin olive oils that are imported from Portugal. The idea and drawing of the “V” in “Venport” resembling a rooster was brought to me by my client’s creative consultant. I then completed the logo off by doing hand-lettering that flows with the letter “V”. After some research into the rooster symbol, I found out that the Barcelos Rooster is the Portuguese’s symbol for their “love of life”, and it is often being painted and decorated simply and beautifully. The patterns on my labels are inspired by this. It showcases six different and intriguing wood typefaces that were all designed in around the 1990s and take on the look and feel of old wood typefaces. My exhibition invites the audience to interact with the type specimens that are free to take away. The physical wood block stamps that I have made encourage viewers to get hands on with the exhibition to create little WANTED posters as takeaways of their own! Using the context and concept of wood type, an experience is created for the viewer to venture back in time. What to do at the WOOD TYPE MUSEUM: Pick a WANTED poster card → Identify the typeface that it is “Wanting” → Find the right wood block → Roll ink on the block → stamp to WANTED&nbsp;poster card! → Use clothespin → Hang on wood stand to dry → Walk around &amp; pick up later! It is a research and process based project that begins with an exploration of how history has affected the ideals and aesthetics of print design in each time period. The project then moves into the most meaningful and important aspect: the making &amp; the experience. In order to capture the limitations of the past, I went on a journey of following old processes. Each period and its printing method has been meticulously researched, explored, and printed with different materials. The results are a series of intriguing and handmade ephemera. In this project page, I will take you through Ikigai Exercises that led me into my project, to creating Printed History pieces that take on the design styles of each period, and the Old Processes that show my process and experience of making. The&nbsp;Multimedia Posters are large posters combining the Printed History &amp; Experience of Making, and the handmade&nbsp;Process Pieces &amp; Tags are displayed. The Postcards are takeways for the project that give a sneak peak into the design styles and experiences of making through each process. The final project piece are two Pressed Ephemera metal stamps that I made for the foil stamping process! This logomark is stamped on my final handbound Process Books, and risograph Journals and Pamphlets that concluded my project. So I made a floral Tetley tea box redesigned in old style. Paper packaging was popular in the past as they could be reused and recycled. Tin packaging was also used abundantly as they could be kept around the house to hold other objects. The website mockup I have created includes the history of each of the periods, designed in the style of that time. It would also have a shop section where people could purchase old style objects and ephemera. Printed History These Printed History (digital laser prints) showcase the design styles and history of each period. My project timeline begins with the Renaissance period (1400-1600), through to the Enlightenment period (1700), and ends off with the Decorative Arts period (1800). But I am so grateful to have had the chance to go back to school to complete my grad project in August 2020! As my thesis is heavily focussed on the process of making, this process book and the making of it was truly important in wrapping up my entire project. I very much enjoyed bounding my book by hand and finishing it off with my Pressed Ephemera logomark foil stamped on the covers. This process book would have been be at the centre of my exhibition where viewers can flip through my journey. and designers on the importance and wonders of handmaking, while highlighting the exciting handmade processes that I learned and used. The risograph was used in order to produce multiple copies for wider dissemination with four print colours. The digital prototype began with wireframes for the desktop, iPad, and iPhone then moved into screen mockups for each one. Examples of userflow are then shown with the iPhone. I have always been intrigued by nature’s many herbs, especially the ones that heal. I wanted to showcase nature’s medicine for the body and mind in a very simple manner; users are able to view the benefits and usage of each herb, share their experiences, and ask questions in the forum. The postcards with herb drawings, usage, and benefits can also be mailed out to others. Healing Herbs received the Top Talent 2019 Adobe Design Achievement Award in the Digital Products and Experiences category. Woo Publication’s directors for the 2019 – 2020 school year, Triet and I found immense interest in the history of what came before Woo Publication. We dived into the Special Collections at Emily Carr University, and I curated 24 student publications to display at our exhibition. The earliest issue is The Paintbox (1926), which was created when Emily Carr first opened; the most recent issue is Extra (2019), which Triet and I recently launched. For the exhibition, we designed a risograph poster which also flips over and folds into a historical catalogue. The poster side showcases all the student publication covers; while the catalogue side describes the dynamics of student life and the nature of each student publication.I would like to thank Danuta Zwierciadlowski for highlighting the amazing history of the student publications of Emily Carr and for helping us put together the exhibition.This exhibition was on display in the Ron Burnett Library + Learning Commons at Emily Carr University from March 2 – 13, 2020. idea of creating a publication dedicated solely to a niche topic that is mundane, yet really worth sharing. My friend Megan and I both work in customer service; I work in a restaurant and she works in retail. Through our many complaints and stories about our jobs, an extreme customer service report was born! This report is for anyone who has ever worked a service job, and for anybody else who is interested to know what really goes on in our minds… We took on a satirical approach to illuminate the crazy people we often have to deal with in the service industry. With expressive and humourous illustrations and friendly but sarcastic type posters, we invite readers to open up the report and investigate on! We kept our entire aesthetic as cheerful and welcoming as possible to speak to the happy faces we are forced to put on for customers, no matter how wrong they may be. Centre at Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children came to the&nbsp;Health Design Lab at Emily Carr University in hopes to undergo a revision and rebrand for themselves. The Evidence Centre provides extremely valuable services in finding and using information in healthcare. These services are helpful but multi-layered and complex, which make them hard to understand for many of their stakeholders. The Health Design Lab team saw the need to explore and design a series of workshops in order to understand the Evidence Centre’s&nbsp;values and services. The learnings from these initial workshops helped us to further refine our co-creative activities to engage with Evidence Centre’s stakeholder groups. After conducting a synthesis of our activities, we noticed that the&nbsp;Evidence Centre’s work&nbsp;is extensive and specific. It is through synthesizing that we saw the opportunity to shift our direction to design a game for co-creation. The card and board game that we designed helps the stakeholders of the&nbsp;Evidence Centre to describe how they connect to health information, and where they place their trust and might experience challenges in finding and using information. This collaborative project with the Evidence Centre&nbsp;has been an insightful and incredibly meaningful journey. We named the co-creation toolkit Finding Your Way, as it is a tool for the Evidence Centre to now further engage with their stakeholders and help them find their way. Emily Carr University of Art + Design’s student-led publication that showcases student, faculty, and alumni work from all disciplines. There are two issues of Woo every year.&nbsp;Fun Fact: Our publication name came from Emily Carr’s pet monkey, Woo! After Extra, from my first term as editor in chief was created, came the time to design Ordinary. Right when we were making final edits and wrapping up with the issue, we were hit with the pandemic and school closure. I realized that it is these times of uncertainty and loss when we come to appreciate the physical interactions within our community and education. These were so mundane and stable that we never imagined the possibility of losing them. However, I am grateful that Ordinary was able to wrap up just in time with amazing face-to-face ideation, critique, and revision. Ordinary showcases simple, raw, and monotone work, and it seeks to find balance and calm in this current mess. We ultimately created Ordinary to complete the year off with Extra–Ordinary, and it has been quite an extraordinary year indeed. I led a team of designers, media creators, and editors through an exciting journey of connecting with the Emily Carr community, while making something memorable together. This project is part of the Zeitgeist journal program that the Health Design Lab at Emily Carr University has worked with UBC Purdy Pavilion and Vancouver Coastal Health to bring to life. The Zeitgeist program is essentially intergenerational storytelling between students and residents where stories of life and love are shared, and visually translated into a book. Each content generation session was filled with many interesting and meaningful exchanges with the residents. We collected fragments of their stories that they were so happy to share, and so vividly remembered. Through this project I learned to design for accessibility, age-appropriateness, and for real people. I was in charge of the design and art direction of this publication. The entire 32-page book was printed with the risograph, and 40 copies were handmade and packaged with love and care. We went back to UBC Care Homes for a lovely final gathering where we distributed and shared our publications with our residents, caretakers, and professors.
